See below a comparison list with the pros and cons of the most common systems on the market. Towards the end of this page you may be surprised to learn that apart from Enviroswim not one of our competitors products has been shown to meet the required sanitising efficacy standards. In fact some have been proven not to meet the standards. With success come the copycats. Enviroswim sales continue to grow year on year thanks to great customer feedback spreading the word. Recently there have been a few new products come to market that claim to be the same or similar to Enviroswim. This is certainly not the case and would encroach on our patented technology. Five minutes for a quick call or email from you will allow us to explain the differences and could save you a lot of wasted money and stress.

*Naked Pools Operation Manual states Oxidiser output of 204 watts. There appears to be a misprint in their manual as their stated 7.57 volts @ 15 amps equals 113 watts not the 204 watts printed. Calculation: Volts x Amps = Watts. When tested we recorded 100 watts from their oxidiser, less than half of the claimed 204 watts output. The output is further reduced due to the power to the oxidiser cell pulsing on & off approximately every five seconds thus reducing oxidation time, logic would suggest that this will require increased pump run times and resulting increased energy costs to compensate.

The importance of Oxidation…. Fact: All pool sanitisers require a powerful oxidiser to work effectively.. Chlorine is a very powerful oxidiser as anyone who has spilled pool chlorine or household bleach on their clothes will know. Salt/Magnesium/Mineral pool systems use the high conductivity created by salt to produce high rates of chlorine at relatively low DC power, while freshwater systems require a larger amount of DC power due to the lower conductivity of the (fresh) water. The technology to achieve this is complex and requires a cooling fan to disperse heat and provide equipment longevity.

In conjunction with the Ultrasonics and Ions the Enviroswim oxidiser requires approximately 225 watts of power to meet safe sanitiser levels in freshwater, while drawing only 1.2 amps of power for the whole system. This keeps power costs and daily run times of equipment to a minimum. (Typically, 1 hour/day operation for every 10,000 litres of pool volume.)

Other freshwater systems are simply too low wattage to power the required oxidation – some as low as 9 watts with no cooling fans. This results in a very cheap build cost and poor performance.

Our experience, research and independent tests show that these systems are unlikely to safely sanitise a pool without the  addition of chlorine &/or prolonged daily run times, leading to high energy/chemical  costs and reduced equipment lifespan. Clear water does is not necessarily safe water.

Promoted as a chlorine free system, baquacil has been used for many years in small residential pools. It is not a very effective sanitiser and is not recommended for use in commercial pools or large residential pools.

Pros: Chlorine Free,

Cons: Polyhexinide is currently under review by the Australian Pesticides & Veterinary Medical Authority (APVMA) due to carcinogenic (cancer causing) concerns with the chemical. Polyhexinide can also cause anaphylactic shock, its use is banned in many parts of the world for this reason. It is also known to cause irritation & inflame allergies in pool water.. see this link. A quick Google search on “baquacil problems” will highlight the issues to anyone considering using this method for sanitising swimming pools & spas. Polyhexinide also requires  Hydrogen Peroxide to be added to the pool at regular intervals as an active oxidiser, therefore adding to the ongoing running costs and handling of dangerous chemicals. Chlorine is not compatible and must not be used in with this system.

Natural Swimming Pools

A Natural pool is a system where the water is treated biologically, without the use of chlorine and chemicals. The water passes thought the sand filter beds, where aerobic and anaerobic bacteria live ready to attack single cell algae. The regeneration zone has plants that feed on the nutrients, starving the food source that algae live off.

We are passionate about minimising or eliminating harmful chemicals in swimming pools, however there has to be a common sense approach to this when it comes to bather safety.  We understand theses pools originated in northern Europe where cooler climates and water temperatures showed some success in using the methodology. In Australia, we’re receiving a growing number of enquiries from natural pool owners & builders to see if they can add an Enviroswim system to the natural system in an effort to eliminate the unsightly algae growth and improve water quality.

The choice is clear to us; you can choose to build a pond and accept the fact that the pool will have algae, slimy surfaces and no proven sanitising properties or you can build a controlled, clean environment swimming pool designed to provide a safe clean environment to swim in, using minimal chemicals. There seems to be little, if any mention of the sanitising properties of the water using a natural pool system, maybe its because there are none!

There is one very serious health concern we have with the Natural Pool system when used in warmer climates.  Naegleria fowleri infection, if you click Naegleria fowleri you will very quickly see why. Whilst it is a rare infection, we would not want our families and friends exposing themselves to the chance of infection from this brain-eating bug. Extract : Naegleria infection does not respond to any known treatment and is lethal.

Enviroswim ES3 System Unique Patented Electronic Sanitiser

Enviroswim ES3 patented system provides sparkling fresh water using natural minerals, sound waves and electronic oxidising. Enviroswim water is low in total dissolved solids (TDS”s) creating a healthy freshwater environment. This is achieved by eliminating most of the regular dissolved chemical additives associated with conventional systems.

Pros: Eliminates the need to purchase, handle or add liquid chlorine, granular chlorine, non chlorine oxidiser, hydrogen peroxide,  stabaliser (cyanuric acid see chlorine section above), algaecides & flocculent. Reduces energy costs, chemical costs, chemical handling, exposure to toxic/carcinogenic by products associated with chlorine and cyanuric acid. Pool water/backwash can be used undiluted on gardens and does not attack rock features and copings. Provides a genuine return on investment through low running costs together with health and environmental benefits. Government supported development, in 2009 met certification as a stand alone sanitiser. Providing world leading independent assurances for consumers.

Note: Enviroswim is not currently registered with *-- due to the financial costs of maintaining the certificate verses the volume of USA sales. Once USA sales grow to an acceptable volume  we intend to re-list. This should not detract readers from the fact that we are one of very few Australian manufacturers who have invested $100'sK on the independent accreditation of our product for our customers assurance & safety.
* Contactual terms prohibit us from naming or using the trademarks of the organisation that certified our product whilst we are not maintaining the registration terms & fees.  Please contact us for more details regarding our history and previous independent accreditation for our patented system.

Cons: Initial cost is higher than some other methods, however unlike our chemical hungry competitors, Enviroswim provides a true return on investment and will provide a pay back on the extra upfront cost in a very short time. Chemically driven industry, including most pool shops can be reluctant to endorse the system due to the low on going chemical revenue after installing the system.Summary

There are many products on the market making claims that are unsubstantiated. Most are designed to feed the recurring chemical revenue stream that supports the pool industry.

Enviroswim is different; we have little to offer the industry in terms of ongoing chemical sales & revenue. A consequence of this is, many pool shops, pool techs and advisory blogs will attempt to talk uninitiated pool owners out of using the Enviroswim system with claims that it is “not approved” "doesn't work" "not safe". Nothing could be further from the truth. The facts don’t lie.. Enviroswim is one of a few product in the world that has been rigorously tested by independent certifiers and a government laboratory proving it to be far more effective than chlorine for controlling common pool bacteria. Enviroswim has years of trouble free history working in commercial pools that are tested monthly for microbiological contamination.

We will happily defend and back up the information & comparisons listed on this page. As always we urge pool owners to do their research in order to make an informed decision.

Ultimately it is your money and your choice, don’t be talked into a system that benefits the reseller more than you the purchaser.
